Yggdrasil doesn’t really do branded slots, so the chances of seeing any kind of official Disney licence here, either based on the original cartoon version or the recent live action iteration, are basically zero. The good news is that the actual Jungle Book story by Rudyard Kipling is fair game for just about anyone to use as inspiration, and there are no surprises to see a young lad who lives in the jungle, along with a snake, bear, tiger and panther for company. The developer has been on something of a roll lately and we are looking forward to finding out what they have in store for us here on this one too.
What to Expect
Jungle Books does not actually make as much use of the characters on the main board as you might expect, although Yggdrasil’s version of the characters always keeps a watchful eye over proceedings, standing as they do at the side of the board. A somewhat unique layout, with a middle reel that has been extended to four rows in one round, gives rise to an equally unique line setup that can be 58 or 68 lines large depending on the area you are in.
Therein lies the key concept on this game. We recently reviewed Seasons from the same developer and praised the way that the game changes as the seasons go by, and a similar concept is in play here but this time the five different setups are tied in with the characters. You will move through them at random, but it makes sense to have a handle on them all before you get spinning as their various perks can be crucial to playing well.
None of the characters have names here, so there probably is some kind of copyright on the likes of Mowgli and Bagheera, but we know who we’re dealing with if we’re honest. In the panther area, the most valuable symbol on the board serves as an extra wild and there are random multipliers of two, three or five times on each spin. In the tiger’s den, a win will see the contributing symbols being sticky, the biggest reel turning wild and one respin being awarded. In the boy’s round – yes, Mowgli is just ‘the boy’ here – reels one and two, then reels four and five, are twinned, ensuring that they display matching symbols. Wilds will also see one or two additional wild cards being added to the board when they land.
The snake bumps up the action by allowing players to win both from left to right and from right to left, and all prizes are worth three times as much as in the other rounds. Finally, the bear sees a new honey symbol being added to the board which pays an instant prize when it lands, and one symbol is selected at random on each spin to land in stacks.
You will notice that each character does two different things in their respective areas, and there is a chance that they can make a special appearance on the right of the board during anyone else’s feature. They will stick around for a few spins and add one of their features to each one while they are there, so you might have the sticky wilds and stacks from the tiger in his area, while being able to make the most of them with the snake’s both ways pays.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
We can see why Jungle Books might sound pretty complicated, and we can admit that you will need to play through the various areas a few times to get a proper handle on what the various features involve. That is well worth doing though as this Yggdrasil mobile slot is impeccably presented and the concept of changing areas always keeps things fresh. We are loving Yggdrasil’s work at the moment and hope it keeps on coming, making Jungle Books one of several great mobile slots that we recommend checking out at the great casino apps featured above.
