There are plenty of themes out there that encourage all sorts of developers to get involved, with all of the big names having released games in the underwater genre and Ancient Egypt, for example. However, one theme that qualifies in the same way, but may often fly a little under the radar, is Christmas. Microgaming releases a new slot every year, and we can only assume that Play’n Go is going to continue to do so after starting recently. Playtech’s effort makes use of their noted eight-line layout which can always be hit and miss, and we are going to discover in the full review below whether this is indeed a game to play in the festive season, or one to send back up the chimney with a receipt.
What to Expect
The Christmas theme does indeed fit the profile of genres that developers like, mainly because the symbols speak for themselves. The symbols here on Santa’s Gifts are not exactly stunning, but they do fit in well with gingerbread men, candies, stockings and other familiar items filling the board. As with all of the games in this style of gameplay, the symbols rotate on their own rather than being printed on full reels, and so the potential is always there to fill the entire board with the same icon.
There is actually little more to this game than simply spinning and winning and while that will appeal to some players, it strikes us as being a little boring. There is at least a scatter in the form of the wrapped gift, which will pay out a prize as long as at least one lands on the board, and landing three stars on a line will lead to a tasty 1,000-coin prize, but that really is all that there is to it.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
We have seen some thoroughly exciting and enjoyable Christmas slots hitting mobile screens over recent times, but the sad truth about Santa’s Gifts is that it does not even come close to being one of them. This game is more Club Night than Gold Rally in the context of the gameplay, and that will never get us excited. If you really want to get into the Christmas spirit, do yourself a favour and check out our Microgaming mobile slot reviews instead, as this one has basically nothing going for it at all.
