As Playtech’s fan base has dwindled, the new releases have slowed down too, but the game maker returned to the scene in force with an entire series of games based on Age of the Gods. They are all pretty similar, choosing to focus on different gods and then slightly different themes in the process, with not much of a difference in terms of the core gameplay, and so we have chosen to focus on the original game as the subject of our review here. It certainly checks all of the boxes on paper, with free spins and jackpots being just some of the extras to look forward to, and we are looking forward to seeing, more than anything, whether Playtech still has it in them to create quality mobile slots or if they are doomed to fade into obscurity.
What to Expect
Upon loading the game, we cannot exactly say that Playtech has outdone itself in the graphics department. The developer has never been known for good looks, but this game already looks dated, which is not exactly the best start. There are no surprises from the win lines either, as just twenty of them are unlikely to get the pulse racing – although the number is at least low enough to make the game accessible, especially alongside the typically wide range of coin bets for each of those lines. A wild card is included as standard and helps out on a regular basis, and the various gods on the board can come together to make for mixed pays too, although ten times the total bet feels more like a consolation prize than something to get truly excited about.
The main feature during standard play is the free spins round, and landing three Age of the Gods logos on the board will trigger a second screen filled with twenty coins. Players can keep on picking until they match three, at which point the relevant god’s bonus round starts to play out. All of them offer nine spins along with an additional bonus such as enhanced multipliers and extra wilds. Upon the completion of nine spins, players can pick again but will be looking to avoid Hades, as his symbol will end the round.
The overall main event on Age of the Gods is the progressive jackpot pool, consisting of four different prizes. The relevant feature triggers at random and players will again need to pick from twenty coins until they match three icons, which are directly related to one of the four jackpots.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
Anyone that has played the Marvel slots will instantly feel right at home on any of the Hall of the Gods games and we can only assume that these titles will be taking over from the superheroes for the foreseeable future. The game is pretty decent, although we would have hoped for better from a flagship release and Playtech is definitely lagging behind the biggest names in gaming right now. However, if you simply have to play with Playtech, there are definitely worse choices of games than this one.
