As of the time of this review, we are coming to the last of the DC Comics slots currently available on mobile devices, and it just so happens to feature one of our favourite characters of them all. That character is Barry Allen, The Flash, and in the interests of full disclosure, we can admit to having seen every episode of the CW series based on him! As with every slot in this series, this one has more in common with the comic books than anything that we have seen on screen featuring the speedster, but that is no bad thing considering the breadth of characters that players will get to encounter here. The action is fast and furious, just as you would expect given the subject matter, and the features are some of the most enjoyable around right now.
What to Expect
As any comic book fan will undoubtedly tell you, heroes are nothing without villains and we were pleased as soon as we loaded The Flash up to see them get almost equal billing on the reels. There is no question that The Flash is the star of the show, but his supporting cast features a true rogues’ gallery, including Captain Cold, Mirror Master and Gorilla Grodd. They are all true to their older comic book appearances too, which is a nice touch for long-time fans like us.
Typically for games in this series, there are four rows of symbols on display and fifty win lines to go along with them. The Flash himself is the wild card on the board, filling in for every symbol except for the scatter, and he comes with a guaranteed three times multiplier too, making him one of the most valuable wilds around.
You might be all set to get spinning at this point, but this would not be a DC mobile slot without a Bonus Bet, and that is well worth considering early on. It costs ten coins extra on top of your regular stake but this is one game where we can say with all certainty that it is essential. Without it, there are no free spins on offer on the game, and a superhero slot with no free games would just be wrong. In this specific case, the other features are not enough to compensate for their absence, so expect to budget for those ten coins every time you play. As an added bonus, the Bonus Bet can also increase the wild multiplier to up to five times in standard play and up to ten times during the bonus round.
If you go without the Bonus Bet for some reason then the only extra feature that you have to look forward to here on this game is the Speedsters feature. It is decent enough, but more of an appetiser than a main course, as Barry may randomly decide to sprint across the board following a spin, turning an equally random number of symbols into additional wilds.
Moving on to the Rogues’ Gallery free spins, players will be looking out for the game’s logo as the scatter, with three or more in view leading to the award of twelve free games. This is where the villains of the piece come into their own and we will kick off with our favourite of the three, that being Captain Cold. When The Flash appears on the board, serving his standard role as a wild card, Captain Cold might appear to free him. For some reason – although we are not complaining – the wild will first expand to cover the whole reel before being frozen, and a free respin then plays out, which does not count towards your remaining free games.
Gorilla Grodd is clearly hungry for the limelight as he will appear on every free spin before using his mind control powers to turn one symbol into an extra wild. Finally, Mirror Master employs a themed trick too, as he can appear randomly following any spin to take players back in time to replay the previous four spins. In practice, this basically adds four more spins to your remaining total, as you still get to keep anything that may have been won on those four spins.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
Generally speaking, we take an instant dislike to any game that forces an extra bet onto players. Sure, the Bonus Bet is technically optional here on this one, but the lack of a free spins round would be a pretty big omission, especially when it is as fun as this one. However, purely on the basis that this is The Flash that we are talking about, we are willing to give it a pass. With the Bonus Bet in effect, this is easily one of the very best games in the series and one that we can see ourselves coming back to time and time again based on some great qualities and fun gameplay.
