By sheer luck of the draw, we are treated to two dragon themed mobile slots from NextGen in a row. Funnily enough, during our review of Dragon Drop, we noted that we had become conditioned to expect an Asian theme whenever dragons were involved, and that game bucked the trend. As the name of Eastern Dragon suggests, however, we are firmly back on form with this one! We are still waiting for a game to truly impress us with new features and robust gameplay in our current batch of NextGen slots, with nothing even coming close to touching the likes of Foxin’ Wins so far. Could Eastern Dragon be the game to change that? There’s only one way to find out!
What to Expect
We have noted in the past just how much some NextGen mobile slots remind us of Aristocrat action, and that was our first impression here on Eastern Dragon too. Aristocrat does admittedly specialise in the Asian theme to an extent, but the similarities here are striking, even down to the combination of playing card icons and somewhat tentatively designed themed symbols. There are no surprises when it comes to the gameplay either, with twenty win lines being the order of the day and a solitary wild card in the form of the flaming dragon helping things along in its role as a wild card that can also double the value of wins that make use of it.
The main bonus round is not exactly much of a surprise either, coming as it does in the form of free spins. There is at least a bit of a break from the three scatters convention, as players will instead be looking to land the dragon scatter on reels one and five at the same time – although in practice it does not exactly make this free spins bonus round come around any more often than on comparable games. Nevertheless, the reward for pulling off that symbol setup is tasty enough, with players being treated to fifteen free games that can also be retriggered while the round is in play. As is standard practice with NextGen mobile slots, there is an automatic multiplier in effect when free spins are in play too and players can expect to receive a three times boost on all their prizes compared to the base game values.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
Eastern Dragon is a solid enough game that does itself proud with some good winning potential but, as is often the case with games from this generation, it has not exactly aged all that well. The biggest compliment that we can pay this game is that in the absence of some of the bigger Aristocrat slots on mobile devices, this one can serve as a worthy substitute, such are the similarities. So, if you’re an Aristocrat fan, you might well want to head over to one of the recommended mobile casinos above to check this one out for yourself.
