We were slightly more apprehensive than normal coming into this Emoji Planet review. If you have been keeping a keen eye on the new mobile slot releases here on the site then you will have seen that Microgaming has been in on the act with their own Emoticoins slot and it was bad. It was very bad. Then again, outside of the theme itself, there are no links between these two games and just because Microgaming has failed miserably, that does not mean that NetEnt has to accept the same fate! As apprehensive as we are, every slot game deserves a fair shot and that is just what Emoji Planet will be receiving as part of this review.
What to Expect
You could tell that there was a definite lack of effort in effect on Emoticoins from the moment that the game loaded, not least because it looked just like almost every recent Microgaming release. Here on Emoji Planet, however, that is certainly not the case and players can look forward to quite a bit of added action here on these reels. There are six of those reels and five rows too, for one of the biggest boards that we have encountered on a new game in a while, and all ways pay across it too. Well, we say that, but technically the game and its wins have more in common with Aloha Cluster Pays than anything else, with players looking to land five or more touching symbols to create a win. There is a wild card to help things along and you are by no means limited to a single win on each spin, as a successful combination will see the qualifying emojis leaving the screen with more taking their place from above, just as players would hope for from a rolling reels slot such as this one.
At the risk of sounding a bit harsh, this game is already vastly superior to Microgaming’s effort and we have not yet got onto the features. While they settled for the tried and tested setup of free spins, NetEnt has taken things in a noticeably different direction here on Emoji Planet. There are five emoji meters on the screen and when you land a win, they begin to fill up. As soon as you have landed wins with twelve of the right symbols over time, the meter is full and a bonus is triggered. It does not come into play immediately either if you are still benefitting from rolling reels wins, and so it is possible to bring more than one feature into play at the same time.
In the bomb feature, players will see eight random symbols being destroyed and a coin win being awarded. The pizza feature selects a block of nine symbols to create a win, while the kiss mark adds three sticky wilds to the board which will remain where they are until they have been used for three wins each. The rocket feature adds a stack of ten wilds onto a reel, as well as above it for rolling reels combinations, while the hearts feature doubles the value of whatever you have won up to this point.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
What we like most about Emoji Planet is that there is no waiting around for bonus rounds and added extras can trigger at basically any time, much like games like Butterfly Staxx and Starburst, even though the former has its own free spins round. Even without free spins, this game does feel complete and it well and truly leaves Emoticoins in the dust. If you want emojis on your reels this month then this is most definitely the game to play!
