When a game immediately brings back memories of the likes of Starburst and Neon Staxx, you can be sure that we will be standing up and paying attention. It has almost turned into something of a mini-series for NetEnt, as no other developer has managed to come close to them when it comes to delivering simple, beautiful slots action that may lack the features of some of the latest games, but still provides an immensely satisfying experience. There are bound to be a couple of surprises in store here on this one too, so let’s take a closer look at what can be expected from this game.
What to Expect
As expected, Butterfly Staxx looks sublime and while it is not outstanding in any particular way, the fact that the various symbols all play their part while being bold and clear is something that we would definitely put in the game’s favour. Even a simple mix of playing card icons and neon themed symbols do nothing to take away from the visual appeal here and the flowery wild keeps things ticking over nicely too, all while players look to bring these symbols together in combinations over an impressive forty win lines.
There would be no point in calling this game Butterfly Staxx if the game itself was not going to do at least something with those butterflies and, unsurprisingly, they are key to the base game. When you land a full stack of the butterfly symbols, the icons will all move as far to the left as possible on the board, filling reel one, then reel two and so on. Only two are required on a win line to trigger a win, and you are not limited to just the ones that land initially either. An initial stack of butterflies triggers a respin, and if more of them land on that spin, they too will move to the left of the board and another free game will play out. This could well be our favourite of the ‘Starburst’ style features and the wins can certainly add up when you least expect it.
We would have been reasonably happy with the game if NetEnt had decided to leave it there, but that is not their style and players can aim to land themselves some free games on this one too. Three or more of the purple flower scatters on the board at the same time will trigger them and five, six or seven free games will be awarded depending on the triggering scatters. All symbols on the board during free spins are cocoons, and they will either turn into butterflies or stay as they are. When they do transform, the butterfly respins will come into effect once again. Given how happy we were with the round in the base game, it is safe to say an additional round where these kinds of wins are virtually guaranteed is something that cannot be ignored.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
We often note that NetEnt is the most innovative developer out there today and while competition is getting increasingly fierce, games like Butterfly Staxx continue to ensure that this is the case. It is another simple game, but it looks great and the winning potential on the reels is clear for all to see. Fans of the developer will love what it has to offer and Butterfly Staxx could even potentially serve as the ideal introduction to just what the developer is all about for new players.
