We know that we often accuse Microgaming of running out of ideas when it comes to their new mobile slot releases, but it only feels like yesterday that we were reviewing the first 108 Heroes game. Okay, so it was July and, at the time of writing this review, it is the middle of September, but it seems like a pretty quick turnaround on a sequel to a game that was never that great in the first place! It almost feels like they were making a series out of this no matter what, and the end result is that we get to revisit the popular Asian theme with some extra multipliers in play – hence the 108 Heroes – Multiplier Fortunes name. We definitely felt that the first game could do with a bit of a boost in the excitement and entertainment departments, so let’s see if this second entry can deliver.
What to Expect
We cannot come right out and say that 108 Heroes – Multiplier Fortunes is a definite upgrade over the first game, but it is definitely different. Players will notice this right away as there are only three reels, so pub slots players can pay closer attention from here. For us, it is nice to see Microgaming doing something different with their three-reel games after they spent so long rehashing the same gameplay under different names with only slightly different themes. The bold, red backdrop returns from the first game, but the majority of the symbols are standard fare for this kind of game, with bars and 7s leading the way. There are at least nine win lines, which is basically as good as it gets on this kind of game.
Joining the 7s and bars are four character symbols, which we can assume are four of potentially 108 Heroes that the developers could have chosen from! They are all wild and they come with their own multiplier too, with between two and five times on offer. They frequently come in stacks, and they will also pay out as scatters too. Also, one or more on the board will lead to the trigger of a single free respin. The wild remains on the board, so some kind of win is guaranteed, and the total prize from that respin, including any wild multipliers, is then double dipped with a further two times boost.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
To be at all interested in 108 Heroes – Multiplier Fortunes, you need to have loved the first game, be a big fan of pub fruit machines or feel like three reels are better suited than five on your mobile device’s screen. If you check any of those boxes then this is a solid offering that is definitely at the better end of what Microgaming usually has to offer in this regard. However, if you are a fan of video slots exclusively, there is nothing too outstanding about this game to draw you in and you would be better off sticking with the original 108 Heroes – or indeed something else entirely as there is still something for every kind of player at the recommended Microgaming casinos featured above.
