Thundercats Slot

Here on Thundercats we have the newest release from Blueprint Gaming and they seem to have taken a page out of the books of other developers by releasing this one online and on mobile devices at exactly the same time. We are beyond excited to get our hands on it for the purposes of this review as it was one of our favourite cartoon shows as kids and until someone takes it upon themselves to release a Teenage Mutant Hero (or Ninja if you’re not from the UK) Turtles mobile slot, this one has every chance of being one of our favourites! Gameplay matters, of course, but Blueprint seems to know what it’s doing in that regard and we are going to waste no more time – let’s get playing!

What to Expect

Thundercats Blueprint SlotPart of the appeal of branded slots for a developer is that the symbols generally design themselves to an extent, although when we first loaded the Thundercats mobile slot up, we saw a board that was actually filled with playing card icons, vehicles and weapons, with not a Thundercat in sight! Fortunately, they are not too far away and will be coming into play shortly. You will also notice that this game asks that you play it in portrait mode, which may seem odd at first given that the main game board takes up only the bottom half of the screen, with Lion-O taking up the top half. That too will become clearer as we proceed.

Getting the basics out of the way, this game is played over four rows of symbols with thirty win lines as standard, so it is still a pretty big game even if it only takes up half of the screen. In fact, let’s not beat around the bush when it comes to that. At any time, the Thunder Reels feature can come into play, which will double the number of lines along with the size of the board, bringing eight rows of symbols into play temporarily.

Before you encounter that, you will need to spin a wheel to land on one of the main Thundercats characters. When this spin becomes available, you can take the first character offered or help yourself to one more spin of the wheel, although you are stuck with the second pick if you go for one. Fortunately, each character comes with a bonus feature and they are all somewhat worthwhile. We will not spoil all of them, but a couple of our favourites are the Lion-O feature, which will cause the Sword of Omen symbol to expand when it lands on reel three before showering the board with wilds, and the Tygra feature which will cause any wilds that land on the board to transform into an often useful stacked mystery symbol.

Snarf can appear at any time following a spin and his main role is to temporarily boost the powers of the other characters, although he can also throw the missing bonus symbol onto the board for free spins if you only have two scatters in view. Whether you do it that way or with three scatters in the first place, the end result starts off with a bonus wheel. There are mystery cash prizes on the wheel, along with five different free spins rounds, but the good news – at least if you are as big fans of free spins as we are – is that spins are the likely outcome and there are ten on offer in all but one of the possible rounds.

As before, we do not want to spoil everything about this feature and you can take our word for it that all of the round are very good. Instead, we will stick with a couple, and they are all based on the villains from the show. In the Monkian free spins, ten spins are in play and a random pattern of wilds will show up on each spin, while in Mumm-Ra’s free spins, another ten games play out but this time any wilds that land will be collected. At the end of the round, the board will expand into its eight row glory, all collected wilds are distributed around the board and one big super spin plays out.

The Verdict

As fans of the show, Blueprint’s Thundercats mobile slot has turned out to be everything that we had hoped it would be. The characters, both heroes and villains, are the stars of the show in properly influential ways and there are enough features going on here to ensure that the game basically never gets boring. In what is always good news for a branded slot, you do not even need to have seen an episode of Thundercats to enjoy what this slot has to offer – although it helps! This is not only the newest Blueprint Gaming mobile slot at the time of this review, but it also could well be the best, and we are very happy indeed to recommend checking it out to our readers.
