Not all UK mobile casino app players have been exposed to BetSoft action before, but for those that have, Rook’s Revenge is probably the best-known game of the lot. Indeed, this is not just the case in the UK as it is often touted as being the best that the developer has to offer in general. It is not long since we reviewed Mega Glam Life here at MobileCasino.net and we noted that the game is basically a clone of NetEnt’s Mega Fortune. There is clearly someone on the BetSoft design team that is a big fan of NetEnt as this game has clearly been inspired by Gonzo’s Quest. While we cannot see ripping off our favourite developer being a viable long-term strategy, it does at least fill out the BetSoft range with quality and they have done well with this one, as you will see in the full review below.
What to Expect
The stone carving symbols are the major giveaway as to the inspiration to this game, as are the 25 win lines. For a developer that normally goes out of its way to use thirty lines, anything less warrants further investigation and yes, Gonzo’s Quest does indeed use the same configuration. Unsurprisingly, when you get spinning and land a win on the board, the qualifying symbols will disappear from view to allow more new ones to land from the top of the screen, so that is rolling reels all taken care of here on this one. The repeated wins can chain together and the multiplier will increase for each one, with no boost to the first win but the second being doubled, the third being tripled and so on all the way up to a potential five times multiplier in the base game. There is also assistance from a wild card that can appear on reels two, three and four.
The main event on Rook’s Revenge is the free spins round and while some games award free games following a certain number of consecutive wins, this one relies on the good old fashioned scatter method. The golden mask is the symbol in question and landing three or more of them on a single spin will lead to the award of free games. Here, the multiplier meter starts off tripling prizes and will then rise to six, nine and then ten times the standard prize values as the wins keep coming as rolling reels are of course still in full effect.
The MobileCasino.net Verdict
It is a bit odd to think that a developer’s most popular game in the UK is one that is the same as something from someone else, but it is what it is and Rook’s Revenge probably stands out to this day as being the best game in the entire mobile range. It is fun and a winning streak that can come along at any time can lead to some massive returns, while the rolling reels ensure that this is perfectly suited to mobile play as the free spins are by no means crucial to any gaming session. If you plan to play this one, however, you will almost want to check out Gonzo’s Quest too and see which of the two games you prefer overall.
