We would have to think back a very long way to come up with a month that Microgaming did not release at least one new slot game, and the chances always are that players will have multiple new titles to look forward to. That was definitely the case in May, and now that the dust has settled, we are going to take a look at what we think our readers should be playing out of the new releases right now.
Before we get down to the details, we will not a comment from David Reynolds at Microgaming, who said: “We’re delivering a whole host of games for May, each bringing a different theme and feature set. Candy Dreams lends on the popularity of candy-themed games in mobile and social gaming, so we expect this to do particularly well on the mobile platform. Guaranteed wilds in the epic Forbidden Throne will ensure players are entertained throughout, while mystery symbols in Fortune Girl and their ability to reveal scatters, we believe will become a player-favourite. Goldwyn’s Fairies is a beautifully designed game comprising three different wild symbols, with gripping base game and free spin features that will enchant players.”
The most important of the four new releases, in our opinion, was Candy Dreams, and it caught the eye immediately, primarily due to the fact that this is one slot game that would not look out of place among the IGT Multiway Xtra selection. The same board state is in effect, along with an identical 720 ways to win betting system, and while the coloured candy treats are not likely to ever be the best-looking games that you will have ever seen, they can all come together to make for some highly valuable returns. There are two bonus features too, including the Candy Planet bonus where players can pick candies and win cash until they find the symbol that ends the round, and also a free games bonus consisting of twelve free spins, where special wild cards can ensure that wild action keeps on coming throughout for some truly stunning returns.
Forbidden Throne is a big game in a slightly different way, as it sees Microgaming opting for conventional win lines rather than an all-pays setup, but this time players have forty fixed ones to make use of. The fantasy theme is in full effect here on this game, with Wulthor the Elven Lord of Fire and Sorconass the Queen of Ice being two of the main characters – although with Microgaming being the name behind the official online and mobile Game of Thrones slots, we would assume that they know a thing or two about delivering this kind of action.
There is a stacked wild card on every spin and it is of course possible to cover additional reels with wild cards too, even going as far as covering the whole board in its entirety. Doing so awards 500 times the line bet forty times over and even if you do not manage to land the full combination, there are still plenty of opportunities to win big with up to thirty free spins on offer through landing scatters – and they all continue to make use of a completely wild reel.
Conversely, Fortune Girl is the smallest of the new releases from last month, with just fifteen win lines in effect. It uses an Oriental theme, which Microgaming’s design team is no stranger to, but it does change things up somewhat through the fact that players can enjoy a manga style rather than the traditionally subtle artwork that is often prevalent on games like this one. Mystery symbols are the highlight within the base game, as they will all transform into matching symbols after landing, potentially leading to some massive combinations, and the biggest wins are reserved, as always, for the free spins round. There, players can work their way through fourteen free games and also work with a multiplier that can reach up to five times the standard prize value.
Finally, we come to Goldwyn’s Fairies, featuring twenty lines and a whole host of magical features. The title character, Goldwyn, can appear on the third reel and when she does so, she will cast a spell on her board position and start the respins. As long as she keeps popping up, the respins will continue, and every magical symbol position will be wild. Naturally, she can appear on any reel while the respins are playing out, so it is a great way of putting together a chain of spins – although not quite as good as the free spins round, where ten spins are awarded for landing a scatter on reels one, three and five. She can continue to enchant symbols during the round, and all of her created wilds will return on the tenth and final spin for one last boost to your bankroll!
Interestingly enough, Goldwyn’s Fairies is actually the first ever slot release from Just For The Win, although it is delivered to casinos through Microgaming’s platform and so is available to play on mobile devices at all of the casinos that offer their titles, including Casumo, Leo Vegas and many more.
