We’re all well aware that mobile casino gaming is on the rise, with 2014 looking likely to be the biggest year so far, but we always like to see confirmation within the industry that things are really heating up. This week saw further action as Mr Green, one of the most popular casinos in the world, welcomes Bo Wanghammar as its new Chief Executive.
Wanghammar’s recent employment doesn’t exactly scream out that he’s the most suitable man for the job, given that he has spent the last three and a half years as the Chief Executive at Lensway, an online glasses and contact lens retailer. However, delving a little further into his past proves his credentials as he spent three years with the mammoth bWin brand. After starting off as manager of the projects portfolio for the company, he then went on to lead the company’s B2C activities. The combination of retail and gaming experience with two big names looks set to be ideal for Mr Green’s continued growth within the industry – Mr Green is a longstanding member of our list of highly recommended mobile casinos and offers an excellent combination of games, user friendliness and promotions.
Mikael Pawlo, Chief Executive of Mr Green’s parent company, Mr Green & Co AB, commented on the appointment, saying that Wanghammar is “the right person to lead the work of developing Mr Green’s already strong position.”
Of course, this story alone sheds little light on the impact on the mobile casino industry as senior staff at gaming companies come and go just as regularly as in any other industry. It is only when we take a closer look at where Marcus Nylen, Wanghammar’s predecessor at Mr Green, has gone that it all comes into focus.
He joined Garbo, a new mobile casino platform, in February last year, taking over from Mikael Pawlo as the Chief Executive. Indeed, Pawlo is intrinsically linked to the entire story as Pawlo launched Garbo separately from Mr Green to cater exclusively to mobile players. While not directly owned by Mr Green & Co AB, the company does have an option to purchase it in the future.
At the time of Nylen’s appointment at Garbo, Pawlo commented: “Marcus has long experience of corporate start-ups and has valuable expertise about the industry from his time as CEO of the online casino Mr Green.”
Indeed, Garbo itself is most certainly still in the start-up stages as we enter 2014 and the success and quality of it as a standalone operator still remains to be seen. We’ll be keeping a close eye on developments and if it turns out to match up to our standards then you can be sure of hearing much more about it in the near future here on the site. In the meantime, we’ll give another mention to Mr Green Mobile which is most definitely out of the start-up phase and looking to consolidate its position as a market leader.
