The online and mobile gaming markets are tricky to traverse on an international level, primarily due to the sheer number of different rules and regulations around the world. While the UK is at the forefront for example and already features a huge number of real money gaming apps on the App Store, the same cannot necessarily be said for other markets. Betsson, one of the biggest gaming companies in Europe, is one of the first to take steps to change this in the Nordic countries through the launch of their very own mobile apps to Apple’s App Store.
One thing that can be said about the legal landscape is that it is always changing, with governments and even Apple themselves regularly updating their policies. Apple’s stance in particular has softened and, as long as company can prove that they are licenced to operate in their chosen markets, then they are free to tempt mobile players in those territories with real money gaming apps. Betsson is of course fully licenced and regulated and has taken advantage of this fact by becoming one of the first providers to offer a dedicated app in northern Europe.
The app itself was designed exclusively for Betsson. With the company offering both sports betting and casino gaming, it will come as no surprise that the app covers both activities, although fans of one or the other can all but block out promotions and information pertaining to the other aspect of the operation. Betsson sees it as a way to rapidly expand their already significant mobile revenues, as they can offer players not only a self-contained gaming experience, but also take advantage of marketing opportunities such as push notifications to ensure unparalleled customer engagement.
Betsson’s app has been designed to operate alongside their existing mobile website rather than replace it and signifies a push towards mobile gaming that is undoubtedly spurred on by the fact that a large number of players already use their mobiles and tablets to access their services.
Magnus Silfverberg, Betsson’s CEO, commented: “The new app enables our operating subsidiary to regain the leading position within mobile development. We see that gambling via smartphones is growing rapidly and we are confident that native apps are the form that the customers will choose in the future. Therefore, our subsidiary puts a lot of effort into this kind of development.”
The Betsson mobile app is available now on the Apple App Store, with an Android version well on the way to completion and launch. The company has also noted that other major brands within the Betsson group will also be benefiting from their new focus on mobile gaming, so fans around Europe and beyond can expect support from their favourite gaming brands across all of the latest mobile devices.
